The Weathering Darling
The Weathering Darling

Our Darling is imagined as a textual experience, probing interdisciplinary discourses and deliberating on the creative process.
We invite distinct ideas, personal compositions and accounts sharing the experience and the feeling, exposing and making connections with ourselves and the others.
And as the creative process is aligned with our capacity for joy, (Audre Lorde discusses "the erotically satisfying experience whether it is dancing, building a bookcase, writing a poem, or examining an idea" - 'The erotic as power'), we invite our writers and readers to share and participate in the intimate and personal and make connections in joy.
On this occasion of Darling
the "Weathering - Φαινόμενα Καιρού" was conceived to explore and amplify the
ways artists and writers are thinking and engaging regarding the environment and
nature, themselves, elements and phenomena.
We are interested in exploring the human–nature relationship, how we are reconsidering the anthropocentric positioning, the all-encompassing and pervasive
anthropic environments and activities.
We are interested in exploring the mutual vulnerabilities of nature as the interlinked human, animal and environment.
How air, wind, water, plant, they posit other notions of corporeality, interpreting the contemporary moment through metaphors of nature.
Humankind has been facing an advancing climate crisis, with Nature -human, animal or environment- as mater* that was instrumentalised for exploitation, now becoming an archive of depleting resources.
Witnessing the breakdown of systems, structures and institutions and questioning
their efficiency led to exploring shifts and transformations, with nature not anymore as the backdrop of societal changes but as a dynamic actor.
We witness a shift of perspective away from the modern man of incessant progress, which entails competition, individualism, exceptionalism, territorialism and ultimately exploitation. A shift away from the sequential and linear notions of aim, proof or point and towards associative and adaptive human, animal and environmental relationships and systems.
Consequently, we encounter a spectrum of transdisciplinary approaches and
perspectives on the interrelation of art and climate, exploring the airy, watery and the animalistic, and centring ecology in the social and political frameworks.
On this occasion
the Weathering Darling is a collection of visceral, féerique, personal accounts, drafts and sketches of artworks, essays on thoughts and theories.
The artists and the writers are reflecting on the climate, circulating and travelling
through us, as emotional, atmospheric and affective, and they are encountering, witnessing, storying and mapping imaginative geographies, refracted through eco-angst and desire, place and identity.

"Recognizing the power of the erotic within our lives (...)
not only do we touch our most profoundly creative
source, but we do that which is female and self-affirming in the
face of a racist, patriarchal and anti-erotic society.
The function of the erotic is to encourage excellence and the strength to pursue it."
